Basil Pesto

Pesto can be pricey to make — you need a LOT of basil just to make a small amount, and pine nuts can be pricey. Thankfully, we have some substitutions that make it easier on the wallet.

Still too much effort? Not a worry. We carry a fantastic, classic Italian pesto right here, and you can have it delivered in just a couple clicks.

To make yours own, here are the ingredients you’ll need:

🌿 2 to 3 cups of fresh basil leaves — or, substitute half the basil for fresh spinach.

🌿 ⅓ cup of pine nuts — but, since these can be costly, it’s totally fine to substitute chopped walnuts, or even a blend of walnuts and pumpkin seeds.

🌿 ½ cup of grated Romano or parmesan cheese

🌿 3 or 4 cloves of minced garlic

🌿  ½ a cup of extra virgin olive oil.

(If you’re substituting spinach for some of your basil, consider adding a few splashes of Basil Olive Oil along with your plain olive oil!)

To make your pesto:

🔹  Add the basil, spinach, and nuts / seeds to your food processor and pulse several times to chop finely.

🔹  Add in the cheese and garlic, and pulse thoroughly again.

🔹  While the food processor is running, slowly pour in the olive oil in a thin stream.

🔹  Add salt and pepper to taste, and give it a quick blend to combine.

Et voila! Enjoy your homemade pesto on pasta (of course!) but also try it on baked salmon, steamed veggies, pizza, or anything else you desire!
